Why We Think The FDS Is Different

We don’t have meetings.

The funds raised are directed to public plantings across north Florida and South Georgia.

We are interested in the identification and preservation of the historic daffodils (some dating back to the “pioneer days”) found in north Florida and south Georgia.

Our quarterly newsletter is an educational and informative two-page publication. We provide updates on public planting efforts, observations on how weather patterns affect area daffodils, and relevant information on daffodil culture (growing).

Our recommended list of daffodils is based on years of FDS test garden data in north Florida. We know what will bloom here year after year, if properly cared for. We also assist with daffodil test gardens in central Florida.

Our educational outreach program includes short and long slide shows to the general public, garden clubs, master gardeners, professional organizations and institutions of higher learning.

We offer bulb sales to our 150+ members and through other organizations in small communities in north Florida and south Georgia. In this way, we make appropriate bulbs available at reasonable prices, answer questions and dispense bulb care information to regional gardeners.

Our annual daffodil garden show, the first weekend in March, at Tallahassee Nurseries (located on Thomasville Road, Tallahassee), is free and open to the public. It showcases area daffodils, offers a “daffodil talk” free to the public, and is not a competitive judged show.
