In 1994, the Florida Daffodil Society established test gardens in Tallahassee where the Society is headquartered. Approximately 150 types of daffodils have been shown through testing to be perennials, namely those that stay in the ground year-round and bloom every year. The FDS does not test any daffodils through the method of digging up after spring and storing through the summer (to re-plant in the fall). The FDS only promotes tested and proven daffodils. If you buy something else, you are on your own, so beware of promises in bulb catalogs.

Yes, Virginia, daffodils do bloom in Florida! The daffodil parade starts in November and ends in early April. The same daffodils can be found across USDA Zone 8b from Charleston, South Carolina, to Houston, Texas, and even a few in Orlando down in USDA Zone 9a.

Pictured in this photo gallery are just a few of the proven successful daffodils for USDA Zone 8a that can be readily purchased in nurseries and catalogs. This is to whet your appetite and get the novice started. The daffodils are presented in general blooming order, with the first ones blooming in January and the last ones blooming in late March. A longer list of recommended daffodils is provided upon joining the FDS!
Daffodils that perennialize in central Florida (USDA Zone 9a) are much fewer. Those that will, based on preliminary test garden data, are marked with an asterisk.
