Subscription Options and Licensing Fees
SugarCRM is sold as an annual subscription. Each year your company licenses the use of the application as outlined in the SUGARCRM PROFESSIONAL or ENTERPRISE SUBSCRIPTION AGREEMENT and must remit payment prior to the expiration of the annual subscription. The license key in SugarCRM will deactivate logon access upon expiration of the subscription.
Deployment Options
Most software vendors offer their software either as On-Premise or as SaaS (Software as a Service). SugarCRM offers you both options for the same price. Enterprises can choose to use SugarCRM’s Cloud Deployment of SugarCRM, install SugarCRM in their own server room or NOC, or have it hosted by a third party provider or. The option that best fits your needs depends upon your internal resources, integration requirements and customization needs.
Cloud Deployment
SugarCRM offers a turnkey option of SugarCRM in the Cloud. In the Cloud, SugarCRM maintains the application deployment including the server, bandwidth, upgrades and database backups. In the Cloud model, enterprises are relieved of the cost and burden of maintaining the deployment; however, several limitations are imposed. In the Cloud model, backups must be requested and is designed to be restored to a mySQL database, customizations must be made via the Module Loader, and the databases beyond a certain size may incur additional charges.
On Premise
Deploying SugarCRM locally requires installation of SugarCRM on your own hardware and requires provisioning of a database, bandwidth and network availability. By selecting On Premise, database administrators can select to deploy SugarCRM on SQL Server or Oracle in addition to mySQL. For companies with experience and back up routines for SQL Server or Oracle, this may be an attractive option. Similarly, by having SugarCRM locally deployed, enterprises may find it easier to integrate with third party applications, especially legacy Accounting, ERP or reporting systems, gain the ability to create modifications outside the Module Loader or change the style, schema of SugarCRM. The flexibility offered by On Premise comes at the cost that enterprises assume the costs of the hardware, bandwidth, upgrades and possibly the cost of the database.
Hosted Deployment
Many companies offer hosting for SugarCRM and the options they offer can vary widely. When working with a hosting partner ask the following questions: how often will the database have backups performed , how often and by what means will one receive the database, which database platform will be used, will the hosting company be upgrading SugarCRM software with new versions, does one have root level access to the SugarCRM directories for customization, what type of connections are permitted to the database for integrations and lastly, what is the maximum size of the database before additional costs are incurred for space usage. In all cases, hosted deployment incurs monthly costs, but it remains a viable option for companies wanting the flexibility of On Premise with the network/systems management of hosting.
